Gloria Sloan is the first African American to graduate from an integrated high school in Belmont. More than 50 years later, she’s opened up about her experiences growing up in the small town during the Civil Rights era, her accomplishments in the time since, and her spiritual journey with her first book, “Abundant Faith: Secrets to Plenty Traveling on Life’s Journey.”

‘I held my own’

Sloan was born and raised in Belmont to David and Clara Crawford Reeves. Her mother died when she was young, and many of her five siblings were grown by the time she was born.
